I LOVE Hairspray.

Could there really be a better cast than that?
Hairspray and I met one night around 3am while I was trying to stay awake during an overnight shift. I had resorted to doing what sadly resembled a Fire Check for the next three hours when I found Hairspray by the TV. I popped it in, and it was love at first sight. Somehow, I already had the soundtrack on my computer (maybe this love really was meant to be!) and I have been playing it nonstop. I’m surprised my neighbors haven’t slipped notes under my door or broken in to throw my computer out of the third story window.
Having listened to the soundtrack 14 times in the past week, I realize now why I love Hairspray so much. I am Tracy. I wake up singing. I skip and dance randomly through out the day (fortunately at work the clients think its fun). I get carried away when I’m passionate about something. I’m no Penny Pingleton or Amber Von Tussle and I’m sometimes insecure and emotional. Tracy has two goals: to be on the Corny Collins show (which she is told she can’t do because of how she looks), and to win Link’s heart (which she feels she can’t do because of how she looks). Being a woman with a lot of dreams going into a field where many believe a woman has no place in and having similar insecurities with self-image and love, I love that Tracy celebrates what seems to hold her back and sings and dances her way to making the world a better place.
I also may or may not have had a crush on Zac Efron at some point in my life.

I’m pretty sure you got the Hairspray soundtrack from me last year when we all had a huge music swapping party. I’m glad you love it! I like every single song on there except for the one that Queen Latifa sings about food. That one annoys me.
Love you!

I like that one! The only one I don’t like is the Cooties song. The DVD has a special feature that teaches how to do the dances… I have to admit, that’s what I’m planning on doing Sunday night at work!
